Still the riders of MotoGP who are in the leading positions want to use the harder-specification front tyre for their bikes which did go unused in the Argentina MotoGP this year, but they certainly do not want to use those tyres during a race weekend.
The french tire manufacturing company Michelin which is one of the largest tyre manufacturing company in the world had released and manufactured a new specification of tire which is used in the front for the Argentine MotoGP in this season with some firm rubber remains. It was done following some requests from some MotoGP riders who wanted harder rubber for the tyre after the Qatar Grand Prix which was the first Grand Prix in 2017.
However, during the Argentina MotoGP there was a general strike running so the strike could not let the tyres reach to the racing track till it was Friday. But, the racers had already decided not to use those further because of some safety issues in that time.
LCR Honda rider Cal Crutchlow said that Michelin chose a bad delivery date to deliver the tyres in that weekend, although he was among the racers who wanted to use some harder tires upfront.
He said that the practice sessions on Friday had turned into some tire tests because the riders of the MotoGP were already needed to run a five lap run using the harder rear tire during one of the two practice sessions on Friday.
Cal Crutchlow had confirmed that he was one of the harder front tire type because he said that some guys wanted to use some harder tire after the Qatar GP and he was one of them and he also confirmed that eight riders were saying that the front tyres of their bikes are too much soft so they needed some harder tires for the next race.
But he also said that the Argentina GP was not the race the tires should have been brought in. Michelin had picked a wrong time to bring the tires in the race. He showed some reason like there was one rear tire with which the riders had to race a total of 5 laps but they had four front tires for five laps so the tires were not that much needed to bring in to the Argentina GP. So, when the tires they had used it a the practice sessions as at the end it ended completely as a tire test. So they have got nothing to do all the day and the whole day went in vein.
He also added that those were the reasons for which the safety commission did not want to run the new tires and decided not to use those in that race.
But Cal Crutchlow also gave some credit to Michelin that Michelin reacted to the riders’ needs very fast as they brought in the new type of tyres just after hearing the comments. He could not resist to give them the credits because it is not an easy job to do.
