CF Moto was started in a small workshop by Lai Guoqiang and his son, this family startup was initiated in 1989 in Wenzhou, China. ZHEJIANG CFMOTO POWER CO., LTD manufactured motorcycle engines, spare parts, accessories, agriculture tools, and others until 1998. It’s first cylinder head for 125 cc engine was made in 1992 and grabbed the monopoly market in China. Later on this company introduced a liquid-cooled engine in 1997 and the following year CF Moto launched the first liquid-cooled scooter in 1998.

After that, CF Moto focused on expanding its business worldwide. CF Moto collaborated with KTM in 2013, became the local distributor of KTM motorcycles in China, and started importing and assembling KTM motorcycles, which led to the signing of a joint venture in 2017 under the CFMOTO-KTMR2R.
