How Many Types of Driving Licenses are there in BD?
There are 5 types of driving licenses in Bangladesh. Those are:
- Learner Driving License
- Amateur Driving License
- Professional Driving License
- Public Service Vehicle License (PSV)
- Instructor License
Learner License
First of all, one has to apply for a learner’s license. He can practice driving in a controlled environment on closed roads. The vehicle somebody is using to learn to drive must show a big size “L” letter in its front and back. The learner must have an instructor present with him while learning his driving skills. And after completing adequate learning he has to go through some tests conducted by BRTA to acquire his amateur or professional license.
Amateur License
This type of license is required for driving privately owned vehicles including Bike, Car, Jeep, etc. The minimum age to apply for an amateur license is 18 years old. One must pass the BRTA Driver’s Exam to obtain it. However, one can’t work as a paid driver under any organization or company through this license.
Professional License
When someone is to work as a paid driver under any company or organization, he must acquire a professional license. With this type of license, one can drive a bike, car, microbus, jeep, pick-up, bus, truck, vehicle up to 14500 pounds, etc. The applicant must be 20 years or older to apply to be a professional driving license holder. Moreover, he must pass the BRTA conducted test to obtain it.
Public Service Vehicle (PSV) License
To obtain it, the person must have at least 8 years of driving experience. The PSV license allows the holder to drive Highway Buses, Muti-axle vehicles, Lorries, etc. The BRTC drivers also must own a PSV license to work under the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation.
Instructor License
An instructor license is required for the personnel who train learner drivers to obtain driving skills. One must hold an instructor license to provide professional instructions to the learners. So, when you are out there to learn driving check out whether your trainer holds this type of license or not.
