What is a Deltabox Frame?

What is Deltabox frame? What is the difference between diamond and Deltabox chassis? Why do they call it a Deltabox frame? What does Deltabox chassis or frame mean? Is Deltabox Chassis unique for the Yamaha bikes only? Let’s find out everything about a Deltabox Chassis or Frame along with its meaning, structure, and more.

What is a Deltabox Chassis?

Deltabox chassis is quite similar to or can be included among the classification of a diamond frame. But it actually, represents a unique design philosophy of the Yamaha brand and hence distinguished. In this frame, you can see lines that connect the top and bottom of the head pipe along with the rear swingarm pivot keeping the lines as straight as possible. This design came from the idea that suggests a motorbike’s performance depends upon the balance of the forces concentrated at the head pipe as well as the swingarm pivot. You can observe the head pipe right at the frame’s front end. The head pipe carries the front wheel’s forces. Meanwhile, the swingarm pivot is located at the back end of the frame. The pivot carries the forces generated by the rear wheel.

Why it is called a Deltabox frame? Well, as we’ve mentioned earlier, there has been a usage of a long head pipe in this kinda frame. When someone sees the frame from the sides the observer can notice a triangular delta shape formed by the lines. Meanwhile, there is also the existence of a box-shaped cross-section. And hence, they call it the Deltabox chassis or frame.
