Battery Construction and Chemistry

Battery is made to provide electrical energy from chemical energy, ions (positively or negatively charged) are shifted from positive and negative groups of the cell plate during charging or discharging the battery. Usually, a battery is divided into 2 rows, 12 volt battery consists 2 rows of 6 cells, and each of these cells produces just over 2 volts resulting in a total of approx 12.7 volts. Likewise, a 6-volt battery has 2 rows of 3 cells to produce 6 volts.

Functions of a motorcycle battery

A battery is a component that puts the motorcycle in stating and provides energy to other components. A motorcycle is nothing but a motionless object without a good-quality battery. A battery contributes the following facilities to motoecyel.

• Starting: The motorcycle engine gets the cranking energy from the battery during starting. Most of the motorcycles feature self/electric starter alongside kick starter, and some bike has only an electric starter.

Different types of Battery

There are different types of batteries for motorcycles like other vehicles, flooded batteries, AGM batteries and Lithium are the most useful batteries for motorcycles. All of them have their specialties and benefits.

Lithium battery: Lithium battery is the most premium and expensive battery for motorcycles, being a high-performing battery its used for most high-end motorcycles. Lithium batteries is popular for its quick charging and low self-discharged facilities, on the other hand, lithium batteries is lighter and more efficient than other available batteries in the market. Lithium battery is completely seated and maintenance-free. There is a vast variation of lithium batteries in the market, lithium battery prices in Bangladesh are approximately 20,000/- BDT.

AGM Battery: AGM stands for Absorbent glass mat, the fiberglass separates the absorbed liquid electrolytes to keep them dry. Being a sealed battery these are good for motorcycles but they need little maintenance. AGM battery is highly durable and can endure extreme temperatures. Like lithium batteries, AGM batteries are also sealed and maintenance-free.

Flooded Battery: This type of battery is called flooded because of its flooded electrolyte, also called wet battery. Usually, the flooded battery is manufactured in 6 or 12-volt configuration to use basic motorcycles only. Flooded batteries are affordable but require distilled water time to prevent sulphation, because of high temperatures the water gets dry soon. Despite of low-cost battery, the flooded battery is not maintenance-free, and sometimes they need costly maintenance.
